# TEF Canada score to NCLC converter

Enter your four TEF Canada scores to see the NCLC level each ability earns. Use the Equivalence ancien score column of your attestation de resultats, not the Score / 699 column.

Use the tool on the [web page](https://french4pr.com/tools/tef-canada-nclc-converter). It works without JavaScript.

## How to use it

1. Enter speaking (expression orale).
2. Enter listening (comprehension de l'oral).
3. Enter reading (comprehension de l'ecrit).
4. Enter writing (expression ecrite).
5. Read the result.

## How it works

The converter maps each score to an NCLC level with the official IRCC equivalency table for Express Entry: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/documents/language-test.html (method checked 2026-10-20).

IRCC reads the Equivalence ancien score column of the attestation de resultats, not the Score / 699 column. Enter the ancien-score figures. The scale shown here is the current Express Entry table (NCLC 4 to 10; scores below the NCLC 4 band show 0).

Each field accepts only whole numbers inside the TEF Canada range for that ability: speaking and writing 0-450, listening 0-360, reading 0-300.

Rules change. Always confirm your level on the IRCC page above before you submit a profile. This tool is not immigration advice.

> A restatement of a public IRCC table, not immigration advice. Scores and equivalencies change; the IRCC page named in the method is the authority.

## Questions

### Which TEF Canada column do I use?

IRCC instructs candidates to use the Equivalence ancien score column of the attestation de resultats. The Score / 699 column is not used for Express Entry. Enter the ancien-score numbers here.

### Why does only my lowest ability matter?

Express Entry reads each ability separately and the French bonus and French-language category require NCLC 7 or higher in all four. Your weakest ability decides whether you qualify.

### How long is my test valid?

IRCC accepts results less than two years old, both when you create your Express Entry profile and when you apply for permanent residence.
